STEVENS PASS – Crews reopened U.S. 2 at Stevens Pass after conducting avalanche control work earlier this afternoon.
The highway was closed from milepost 58 to 67 between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.
More than a foot of snow fell in mountains between Tuesday afternoon and around noon today, said Art Gaebel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Weather is improving at the pass, but another front expected to bring more snow Friday. “Nothing in the intensity that we just saw in the last 24 hours,” Gaebel said.
