The U.S. Department of Education is investigating the University of Washington over its response to a report of sexual violence.
The school says the investigation by the Office for Civil Rights is automatic after a UW student sent a complaint to the federal government.
More than 100 universities are currently the subject of similar investigations by the Department of Education. Western Washington University, Washington State University and Whitman College are also on that list.
The investigation falls under federal Title IX law regarding response to a report of sexual violence.
UW spokesman Victor Balta says the university has been working on combating sexual assault on campus, including a task force review of the UW’s policies and practices. He says the university has already implemented some of the task force’s suggestions, including training around prevention, response and bystander intervention.
