WALLA WALLA — Corrections officials say a Washington State Penitentiary unit housing high-risk offenders is on lockdown after a staff member was assaulted.
The Tri-City Herald reports that an operational advisory posted online says the assault occurred Monday in a dayroom in the west section of the G Unit. It was not known whether the staffer was injured or how many prisoners were involved.
Prisoners in the G Unit are confined to their cells while the assault is investigated. The G Unit is part of a specially designed complex that houses gang-affiliated prisoners in four, 198-bed units.
The lockdown is to be reviewed today. The rest of the Walla Walla prison is functioning as normal.
