Washington man charged after highway shooting

BUTTE, Mont. — A Washington state man faces two counts of attempted deliberate homicide after a shooting on Interstate 90 in western Montana broke out two car windows.

The Montana Standard reports Matthew Colbert, 39, of Vancouver, Wash., was initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon. His remains jailed on $100,000 bail.

Granite County Attorney Chris Miller said after reviewing the evidence, he will file amended charges when Colbert appears in District Court on Thursday.

Sheriff Scott Dunkerson says an older couple was traveling westbound Friday evening near Drummond when a vehicle pulled up beside them. Shots were fired from the vehicle, breaking windows on both sides of the car. No one was injured.

The couple called 911 and Colbert was arrested a short distance away.

Miller wouldn’t speculate on a motive for the shooting.
