EVERETT — A nearly $1.9 million state loan should help the Silver Lake Water and Sewer District upgrade three lift stations during the next year.
Moreover, the work promises to create 10 or more construction jobs.
“This project will improve service to our customers and will put people back to work in our community,” said Anne Backstrom, president of the district’s Board of Commissioners, in a statement. “It’s truly a win-win for everyone.”
Lift stations move neighborhood sewage uphill to gravity lines that take it to a treatment plant. The Silver Lake Water and Sewer District has 22 lift stations in all. The district serves about 43,000 people in the areas of Mill Creek, Everett, Snohomish and Bothell.
The district’s loan is coming from the state’s Public Works Trust Fund, a revolving loan fund that offers low-interest loans to help local governments with public works projects.
The Legislature this session approved using $324 million from the fund for 77 infrastructure projects throughout the state.
The Silver Lake Water and Sewer District expects to get a 1.5 percent interest rate on its loan, general manager Patrick Curran said. That should benefit ratepayers by keeping operating expenses down.
