An Edmonds woman could face 15 years in prison for shooting an Everett man in 1999.
Marygrace H. Fajarillo, 22, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the death of Daniel Hjellen.
Deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson said Fajarillo admitted in court Monday that she used a firearm in the death. The firearm adds five years to her prison term, Dickinson said.
He said he will recommend she serve a little more than 15 years when she’s sentenced Nov. 14 by Superior Court Judge Joseph Thibodeau.
Another judge last week found Fajarillo competent to stand trial. She had undergone evaluation and treatment during several stays at Western State Hospital at Steilacoom. At last week’s ruling, defense attorney Mickey Krom said his client wanted to take advantage of the prosecutor’s plea offer to prevent him from increasing the charge to first-degree murder.
Fajarillo went through the victim’s pockets and took cash and car keys after he was shot. A death during a robbery is a cause for charging first-degree murder.
She used to work in various topless clubs throughout the area, according to court papers. Fajarillo was at Hjellen’s residence in May 1999 because his roommate was her former boyfriend, papers said.
Before the shooting, she had asked Hjellen to loan her some money, documents said.
