LYNNWOOD — A Lynnwood maintenance man remained at a Seattle hospital Friday after being attacked by a stranger at work.
The victim, 52, was stabbed in the back Thursday afternoon near a maintenance closet at the Pinewood Square Apartments along 208th Street SW. He suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
By Friday afternoon, he had been moved out of intensive care and upgraded to satisfactory condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The suspect, a 41-year-old homeless woman, had been staying with her sister at Pinewood after a divorce, according to the police report. Advocates who work with the homeless had been trying connect her with services, records show.
The woman, Lisa L. Williams, was being held at the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted murder. Bail was set Friday at $500,000 in Everett District Court.
When police arrived at the apartment complex, she allegedly told them, “I’m crazy.” When they asked why she said that, she replied, “Because I just stabbed someone.”
She reportedly asked the officers to take her to a mental-health hospital. She said she had fantasies of hurting and killing people at the apartment complex.
Williams was stopped from stabbing the victim a second time when passersby pinned her to the ground. One man held her down while another applied pressure to the victim’s life-threatening wound. A third man kept his handgun trained on her, according to the report.
The knife was found in the grass nearby. Police have ruled out any drug or alcohol use leading up to the attack.
