MUKILTEO — A woman’s body was recovered Wednesday from Puget Sound, west of Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo.
Family members awoke to find the Edmonds woman, 88, missing from her home on 143rd Street SW, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. She had been living with dementia.
Family called the sheriff’s office at 8:30 a.m., to report she was gone.
People fishing in a boat a half-mile west of the Mukilteo lighthouse spotted a body in burgundy clothes and an overcoat around 11 a.m., Mukilteo police officer Myron Travis said.
A rescue boat brought the deceased woman to shore around noon. It’s not clear exactly how long she had been in the water. Her home is about 5 miles south of the park.
There were no obvious signs of foul play, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman’s identity has not been released.
An autopsy will be performed by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, to confirm the cause and manner of death.
