EVERETT — Two women who died in a house fire Saturday in Everett have been identified as Jennifer R. Saliman, 68, and Virginia M. James, 92.
Neighbors said they were mother and daughter.
The women were asleep in a home on Wetmore Avenue when a fire started in the living room. Firefighters arrived shortly before 6 a.m. and saw flames 30 feet tall coming from the roof.
The house did not have smoke detectors, city spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke said. Investigators believe the fire may have been burning for an hour before 911 calls were made.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined the women died of smoke inhalation. Their deaths were ruled accidents.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, but they do not believe it was suspicious, Pembroke said Thursday.
