SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — The Skagit County Public Works Department didn’t finish removing a logjam at a railroad bridge near Sedro-Woolley before a deadline to avoid disrupting spawning salmon.
The logjam could act as a dam during a flood and undermine levees or the bridge piers.
State Fish and Wildlife Department biologist Jeff Kamps says in case of total blockage during a storm the county could declare an emergency to remove the jam.
The Skagit County Public Works director, Jim Voetberg, says the department didn’t get the job done this summer because of a turnover in employees.
