EVERETT — People interested in learning more about protecting Puget Sound can sign up for a one-day event at Everett Community College next month.
“Sound Living” offers a full day of workshops on Nov. 5. Organizers have dubbed the event a “communiversity.”
Subjects vary from “Rock Fish and Marine Preserves” to “Backyard Chickens 101: Raising an Urban Flock” and “Harvest the Rain: How to Build Your Own Rain Barrel.”
In all, more than 40 presentations are planned to explore the relationship between the Sound, the surrounding land and the people who live here. Other topics are oil-spill response on Puget Sound, medicinal plants in your back yard, sustainable farming in critical areas and harbor seals.
Experts are slated to lead the sessions. No specialized knowledge is required to participate.
Washington Sea Grant Director Penny Dalton is the keynote speaker.
Washington State University Snohomish County Extension’s Beach Watchers program is sponsoring the event along with the county’s Marine Resources Committee, the Puget Sound Partnership and Everett Community College.
Activities are planned from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Everett Community College, 2000 Tower Ave., Everett.
Registration costs $35, with a special $20 rate for students. Both rates go up by $5 after Oct. 21. Lunch can be bought during registration, or people can bring their own.
