Two women died in separate auto accidents Thursday along Highway 20 near Oak Harbor.
A 33-year-old Oak Harbor woman died after her truck rolled several times on Highway 20 between Oak Harbor and Coupeville around 3:50 p.m., said State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen.
Several hours later, at 8:15 p.m., a woman died when her car slammed into a delivery van three miles north of Oak Harbor.
Rudeen said the woman, traveling south, crossed the center line when rounding a curve. She died at the scene.
The driver of the van was injured, but his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Rudeen said. A passenger in the van was not injured.
The van weighed around 20,000 pounds.
More information – including the ages and hometowns of the drivers – was not available at press time.
The 33-year-old Oak Harbor woman, traveling southbound, died after she failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of her pickup truck, Rudeen said. She drove into a ditch and then back onto the road, where her truck flipped.
The woman died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no passengers in the truck.
Rudeen said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Highway 20 was closed in both directions for two hours while troopers investigated the accident.
