ROCHE HARBOR — An 85-foot yacht burned for hours, sending up thick black smoke, before firefighters were able to put out the flames at the Roche Harbor marina and resort on San Juan Island.
KOMO-TV said no other boats were damaged by the fire that was reported Wednesday morning. There were no reports of injuries.
The yacht was reportedly heavily damaged.
A Washington state Ecology Department spokesman said the marina deployed an oil spill containment boom as a precaution and a spill response contractor was standing by. However, spokesman Dustin Terpening said no fuel spill was reported as of mid-afternoon Wednesday.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The San Juan County sheriff’s office said the Coast Guard also responded.
