BEND, Ore. — The Deschutes County district attorney says the 1-year-old boy allegedly left in the woods of Central Oregon had been taken from his legal guardian in West Virginia.
The Bulletin reports the child’s legal guardian is his maternal grandmother, according to District Attorney John Hummel.
Hummel alleges that 25-year-old Brandon Blouin took the child without legal authority. Blouin is the biological father of the child.
Authorities say Blouin was living in an SUV and had left his son naked and alone for hours in the woods near Bend. The boy was not hurt.
Investigators say Blouin told them he had gone to look for the boy’s mother.
Blouin faces charges of assault, child neglect and criminal mistreatment.
A request by Blouin for court-appointed counsel was approved this week by the court but it was not known if an attorney was appointed.
