Second ‘Murder Hornet’ nest of 2021 located in Whatcom Co.

Another nest of Asian Giant Hornets, the second of 2021, has been found in northern Whatcom County.

BELLINGHAM — The second nest built by Asian Giant Hornets — commonly known as “Murder Hornets” — of 2021 has been located in northern Whatcom County, the Washington State Department of Agriculture reported Friday.

“Our team on the ground has located the second Asian giant hornet nest of 2021,” a Department of Agriculture Facebook post read Friday morning. “Eradication plans are underway and will take place in the next few days.

“The nest is southwest of the first nest this year, all within a few miles of each incident in North Whatcom county. We will update when we have more information.”

It is the third Asian Giant Hornet nest that has been located in Whatcom County the past two years.
