The mud-slinging has started in earnest against our 10th Legislative District Democratic candidates.
One of the smear targets is Rep. Dave Paul, running for relection to the House, Pos. 2. A regional “community newsletter,” contains a piece devoted to distortion of Dave’s record. Before reading it, you know what’s coming; a grainy black and white inset, featuring an unflattering photo of Dave, amid the sea of colors of the rest of the publication.
Let’s get real.
As a representative, he serves all citizens of the 10th District. His constituency is families, veterans, students, teachers as well as white and blue-collar workers. He is never hesitant, even in these most partisan of times, about crossing the aisle to collaborate with Republicans to find common ground to arrive at solutions for all the people.
As a career educator, he works with teachers, principals, and school superintendents to make education more accessible and affordable for our children, veterans, and adults in need of retraining.
He is a moderate.
Dave has been painted as being anti-police and pro-crime. Look at some of his endorsements: the Fraternal Order of Police, the Washington State Troopers Association, and Skagit County Sheriff Don McDermott. His ongoing support for public safety has additionally gained the endorsements of the International Firefighters Association Local I-66 and the Washington State Council of Firefighters. Keeping us safe is one of Dave’s major priorities.
Dave Paul has earned the respect of our citizens, public servants, veterans, and colleagues on both sides of the aisle. What he has not earned is the vitriolic slime emanating from the dark side of our politics.
He has also earned reelection.
