Cory Jacoby’s sentence of 23 years in prison is pathetic (“Man who attacked former girlfriend gets 23 years behind bars,” The Herald, Dec. 23). He claimed his ex-girlfriend raped and bit him. How absurd, when the facts prove he beat her so severely she was blinded in one eye. Also, he left with broken bones.
What alarms me more than the above is his female defense attorney asked for an exceptionally low sentence of 12 1/2 years behind bars. Although he is to serve 23 years, it is not enough.
He stalked her after she moved and she obtained a restraining order. I’m fully aware, as many are, that often that piece of paper acts as no more than the red cape a matador waves in front of a bull.
So, no sympathy on my behalf. I’m quite suspicious of the Me Too movement. I still believe a person is innocent until proven guilty. The very mention of high-profile producers and actors being accused is the kiss of death. Please remember the old saying “walk a mile in my shoes” before casting judgement.
