Ad demonstrates educational need

We have included a photo of the Snohomish McDonald’s advertising sign on Ave D, shown in early July. The advertisement stated: “PC 20 Cnicken McNujjets $499.”

They were attempting to sell a 20-piece box of Chicken McNuggets for 4 dollars and 99 cents. However, the message came through as “Politically Correct 20 Cnicken McNujjets for $499.” Now, our cousin visiting from Norway happened to observe this sign. He was thoroughly confused. Was McDonald’s really lowering its standards into selling “politically correct Cnicken McNujjets” for that price?! We just had to stop and take a snapshot of this obviously illiterate sign.

We came to the understanding that perhaps McDonald’s had run out of letters to correctly advertise on this type of billboard. However, wouldn’t it have been a wiser decision to just promote a different product? This leaves many pondering the level of intelligence, not just in the McDonald’s company, but within the entire community of Snohomish and the surrounding areas. Is this what our tax dollars are coming to? How will our children ever learn to spell and read correctly, much less run the country?! We need to step up and take responsibility for the education of our next generation by putting more time and money into our schools.

This is an atrocity of a McDonald’s sign, and it is just one example of how our country is lowering its educational expectations. Hopefully, this advertisement, and consequently this letter, will alert the community to the changes that need to occur in order to support and improve the next generation, specifically with their spelling abilities.
