As a lifelong resident, Cascade High graduate and mom I have seen and experienced the school district from many sides. Charles Adkins is a uniquely qualified candidate for the Everett School board position. He has worked harder than most to become a person who listens and advocates while also delivering positive policy change that is improving kids lives.
Adkins has volunteered in the Everett community since he was 16. He has been involved in Cocoon House, the Children’s Campaign Fund, and the Washington State Advisory Council on Homelessness, the Health Coalition for Children and Youth, the Blue-Collar Fund, and many more. He holds leadership positions in many of those organizations as well.
As an Indigenous person dealing with all the complexities of personal trauma and homelessness, Adkins completed his schooling in the Everett School District, graduating and continuing his education through college. This would give a degree of firsthand knowledge that would add a needed perspective on our school board.
I speak from experience with Charles. He sets a goal and then works through the steps to achieve it, enlisting those who can work with him, integrating others knowledge and producing a solution. He has been a relentless advocate for the cause of homeless youth by working with local government, to keep the kids in the minds and votes, of our representatives.
The Everett School District needs more people at the table who can bring empathy and understanding to the issues our schools are facing from a professional lens and from a personal perspective.
