On the streets of Everett there are bad drivers and good ones, but from what I have experienced, the bad drivers are usually elderly. They cut you off, brake when they don’t need to, and some don’t use their turn signals. Driving is a way to have freedom and independence, although sometimes that form of independence and freedom needs the brakes. I’m not saying all elderly people are bad drivers, it’s just the ones I have seen.
So I say, after a certain age, people should be tested to make sure they are still capable of driving. It’s a fact that people over the age of 65 can have vision deficits, body, and cognitive changes, and hearing impairments. Even though we sometimes cannot help that these natural occurrences happen to us as we get older, we need to stop putting not only our lives at risk, but everyone else’s. There are other forms of transportation, such as buses and carpooling, even taxis. Sometimes privileges need to be taken from us to keep our society safe.
