Alderwood water district claims square with own experiences

As a previous Alderwood Water District employee who worked there for over 10 years and left in March of this year, the recent articles about the district do not surprise me one bit (“Alderwood water district staff emails add to ‘toxic workplace’ claims,” The Herald, July 25).

I agree that one of the main issues is the general manager. Another large issue that has not been mentioned is the entire maintenance department. This department’s management is the most unprofessional workplace I have witnessed. Most of the supervisors have multiple complaints over the years of verbal abuse and discrimination. These issues have been swept under the rug for years. Human Resources have been notified of these cases and nothing has been done about them.

There are many employees that have been afraid to speak out over the years due to retaliation. I feel sorry for these individuals who are still enduring this abuse. I also believe that the commissioners have no interest in correcting these issues. They can easily dismiss the general manager and have yet to do so, that proves to me that they do not care. I strongly believe that all the commissioners should resign immediately. Alderwood Water and Wastewater District use to be a great workplace and employees took pride in their work. Most of the upper management is under qualified for their positions. I hope some changes are made soon or else they will see the departure numbers continue to rise.
