Allow the police to do their jobs

It is an absolute tragedy that Michael Brown chose to engage in such reckless and criminal behaviors, which ultimately led to his own death. There are no winners in this horrific scenario. As a parent, it is incomprehensible to imagine losing one of my children and my heart goes out to his parents.

With that being said, it is critical for us not to allow criminals to abdicate their personal responsibility and the consequences of their actions in these matters. Case in point: Mr. Brown had just committed three felonies and was under the influence of drugs at the time of his demise. Moreover, he had jeopardized the life of Officer Darren Wilson by grappling for the gun within the police cruiser. It should also be noted that Michael Brown was 6 feet, 6 inches and weighed 292 pounds, which would certainly give me concern for my safety.

While there are most certainly vestiges of racism within certain aspects of our society, this particular case does not seem to be one of them. This is about a criminal placing a police officer’s life in peril and the consequences of those reckless behaviors.

It is now time for us to allow the police to do their jobs by protecting us, and for parents to instill the cause and effect of deadly decisions. We should each pray that everyone involved get the healing that they need.
