One has to wonder where this nation is going with the ever-increasing acts of violence involving guns. The story of the man shooting and killing a 11- year-old’s dog right in front of her because her dog, supposedly, attacked his dog, although police could find no wounds on his dog, is a perfect example. It’s become all too easy for too many of us to resort to gun violence to solve a problem, perceived or otherwise. As in Kenosha, Wis., recently, where a 17-year-old used a gun to threaten folks who think differently politically. The result? An all too predictable: two people shot dead and another wounded. And you can’t help but wonder if those gun-packing “patriots” at political right wing rallies are really going to shoot those with opposing viewpoints. Is this what patriotism is these days?
More and more we read or hear of guns being involved in a disagreement or dispute. Road rage with guns displayed or used is an evermore common occurrence. Domestic violence is double what it was only three years ago. As we become a more violent nation we weaken ourselves with division.
Our enemies, besides our own selves, Russia in particular, sees this and believes the time is right to put the pressure on us to get their way and they are clearly seeking ways to take advantage of the situation. We are contributing to our own weakening as a world power. Is that what true patriots do?
