In this time of national tragedy there are many emotions and thoughts that have been overwhelming our consciousness for the past few days. Grief, fear, anger, frustration and empathy are but a few. Many of these emotions can sap our strength and weaken our spirit. My mind has turned to pride and commitment.
We need to be very proud of the rescue workers: firefighters, paramedics, police, healthcare providers, construction workers who have helped in the efforts to save the injured. We have seen many of our finest die in their efforts to rescue others. Yet more come to work even harder. We must remain committed to our national goals: recovery from this attack, vigilance to prevent more events, preparation for disaster, and punishment for those who helped these cowards attack our country. We all need to participate in these efforts and thank our friends who remain ready to protect our citizens.
