I smile every time somebody mentions aviation as the scourge of the city. Last time I checked, Boeing was the largest single employer of this county, and most likely a very large percentage of its workers live right in the area of Paine Field. Not only that, but without aviation, the economy of this neck of the woods would be very limited, indeed.
Think about it, people, look way back to the 1970s, when Boeing was facing major layoffs and our economy was worse off than today. I can still remember the billboard proclaiming, “Last one out please turn off the lights” right along I-5.
Now fast-forward to today. Our economy is facing another downturn, Boeing may be facing more layoffs, and a local mayor wants to actually give away hard-earned taxpayer dollars to lawyers, of all people. For what? What does this do to help anyone?
Don’t start talking about crime rates going up until all our jobs in this region are gone and we can’t afford to hide behind our double-pane glass.
I have lived in West Everett my whole life under the noise of Boeing, but I never thought people would start complaining about the only positive resource this county even has. I am ashamed that there are people so set on ruining the local economy in such a way, and I hope that there is a majority out there who will silence these idiots.
