In order to have youth develop into well-adjusted adults it takes a village. A vital part of that village is having strong leaders who understand the great honor and responsibility of mentorship.
Arlington Mayor Barbara Tolbert takes the role of mentorship not only seriously, but it is it pivotal to her very being. I know this from personal experience, having been her mentee for over 15 years. When we met, I was looking for volunteer experience to put onto my college resume and in addition to that experience I also found a lifelong friend. Throughout the years she has been a source of advice, a non-judgmental sounding board in every aspect of my life ranging from professional to personal.
In both settings she has always been able to help me look at both sides of a problem or obstacle I have faced and has helped me arrive at a resolution. Through Mayor Tolbert’s mentorship I have learned critical thinking skills in everyday life scenarios, communication adeptness and openness for any given situation as well as the importance of giving back to the up-coming generations.
I do not live in Arlington anymore; however, I strongly urge voters to vote for the mayoral candidate who will care and work for the youth in the community. That candidate is Mayor Barbra Tolbert!
