Regarding the front page article about the Twitter account that was being investigated (“Police union leader accused of anti-protest Twitter trolling,” The Herald, Nov. 22): That article and that investigation are attacks on free speech.
I quote Kathleen Marquardt’s recent article about cancel culture, as available at AmericanPolicy.org under the articles tab, where she says “Western Culture represents the reasoning, logical, fair and open-minded aspects of our world. Out of Western Culture sprang the United States Constitution, the framework of the nation. And the Christian religious traditions, especially the Ten Commandments, are the underlying pillars of Western Culture.”
Cancel culture seeks to destroy the values that made our country great. The freedoms recognized in the Bill Of Rights in our nation’s Constitution stand in their way.
The Herald article makes references to events that are voiced in a way that is a direct attack on those freedoms. We each hold our own opinions and have the God-given right to express them.
We must be very careful not to react with violence to cancel culture tactics but with innovative inconvenience. Nicholas Sandman got that right. Those who strike the first physical blow get the “bad guy” label. Please read Marquardt’s article.
