Whatever happened to anonymity? Do I look like everyone’s best friend? In answer to the writer of the letter, “Upsetting to be asked about plans,” she’s right.
It seems like all of a sudden, while performing our usual errands at our regular stores these days, we are obligated to be engaged in social media-like interactions with perfect strangers. What do the people we interact with, at the places we visit, care about our plans for the evening or even the weekend, and why? I certainly don’t care about their plans.
As I see it, we are put in the uncomfortable position of either answering a question that is none of their business or of being rude. It’s not just nosy, it’s annoying. As someone who makes it a point to go to several places of purchase during one trip, it becomes quite wearying to be asked the same thing over and over.
Social media actions need to stay with the people engaging in social media who want all their plans and actions to be known and flaunted. Please, people who serve the public, go back to the way it used to be … so that we can get our errands done without the unsolicited curiosity of strangers!
