Berger should resign for city’s sake

I have read the various newspaper articles and Public Disclosure Commission documents pertaining to Councilman Ken Berger’s campaign contribution concealment. One of the two violations occurred during 2001 when the late Bob Holman campaigned against me, so I think I have the right to speak out on this issue.

Ken Berger has violated the trust of the citizens and in my view, his oath of office.

I would urge Councilman Berger to resign immediately or very possibly face a recall. That would not be beneficial either to the community or Councilman Berger. We need to get back to the business of the city of Monroe. This city’s reputation has been deeply tarnished because of this. I’m also concerned about the silence of our City Council on this issue. There is an old Abraham Lincoln quote: “To sin by silence when we should protest, makes cowards out of men.” We must not let this happen.

Out of respect for this city and its residents, I ask Councilman Berger to resign immediately for the benefit of all.
