Once again I was elated to see the Tuesday local section of The Herald headline “Mukilteo on best-town list!” It is No. 10 among the best small towns for families in our nation, according to Money magazine. The magazine’s criteria of selection were based on availability of good jobs, low crime, affordable homes, things to do and strong schools. That is why most of us choose to live here and we are proud of that ranking.
Why would anyone want to destroy this setting? That is what will happen if commercial air passenger service comes to Paine Field, along with the proposed annexation by our city officials. Failure by our state officials and unions to keep Boeing and the assembly lines for the 787 at the Everett plant will also contribute. We will also lose our reasonable quietness for neighborhoods and schools, making it unbearable. Air quality will become a problem. We will also lose our low crime rate because of undesirable legal and illegal businesses, and not to forget the jobs created by Boeing.
