Better warning of closures needed

Last Sunday (June 12) traffic was bad and I knew very well that running into Everett from Marysville would be no small task for any man, but I did it.

I thought I’d simply run to Everett and take the “back way” home across the flat on Broadway.

Traffic appeared to be slow but manageable as I left the Everett Mall and proceeded north.

As usual, North Broadway was gridlock and plugged on the north end where motorists cut-off everyone to get onto the bridge.

Forty-five minutes later, I finally saw a police vehicle with the road blocked at the bridge and traffic is being diverted back south to get onto I-5.

There were no road closure signs or warnings and this critical roadway was essentially cut-off, making hundreds if not thousands of cars now get back onto I-5.

Eventually, I ended up going across the trestle and onto Highway 9 to get to Marysville, but I never expected it to be this bad.

I know officers are busy, but a warning in this case would have been very helpful. If the road is closed, please tell the motorists with a sign or something.

Every available route to I-5 north was also plugged solid as the back-up actually extended through Everett.

I know I made a big mistake taking a Sunday drive but closing off Highway 529 sure didn’t help.

WashDOT, whoever made that call was not very popular that day. They made life miserable for thousands of motorists.

The SnoCo Squeeze was even worse, if you can imagine that.
