‘Birth’ scene wrong any way you look at it

On Oct. 29 I read a review in The Herald about the movie “Birth.” It was given a four-star rating by Herald movie reviewer Robert Horton. Mr. Horton described a scene from the movie where a 10-year-old boy, Sean, appears as the “reincarnated” husband of Anna (Nicole Kidman). He went on to describe a scene in which Sean and Anna end up in the bathtub together. To me this sounds like child pornography. Isn’t child pornography against the law in America?

You may ask how can I condemn this if I haven’t seen the movie (I haven’t, nor will I). I don’t have to get into a bathtub with a man 20 years older than me to know this is wrong. I have been taught at home, school and church that some things are just wrong, and this would be one of them.

I would hope that if the Everett Police Department were to walk in to someone’s house and find a home video of a minor crawling into a bathtub with an adult, that they would take appropriate action.

So why is Hollywood not held to the same standards as everyone else? What kind of parents would allow their child to be exploited like this? What’s next, releasing all of the child molesters that are in jail with an apology saying that it was just “entertainment”? Will children be tricked into thinking that this is appropriate behavior? Would Mr. Horton approve of a 10-year-old child sharing a bathtub with an adult? I would encourage people to boycott this movie.
