I am so glad that an agreement was hammered out this spring with the Snohomish coaches before the fall football season began. What would this town do without the Panthers? So what if this strike affects every child in this school system, the few who are able to make a team and participate in school sports are not having their season disrupted because of this darn strike.
The message the board is sending is that they care less about the education of our children than this year’s teams chances at state. I believe they have their priorities in the wrong place. Education first, then sports. Not every child will play on a team, but every child has the right to a good education.
Afraid to spend money? Sure wasn’t a problem a couple of years ago when they decided to build that fancy new administration building. Now they’re making threats to the union of stopping health plans, and holding out until the teachers go broke. They think they’re doing the taxpayers a favor – they aren’t. Our school system is suffering and the longer they refuse to bargain, the worse it will become. The good teachers will leave, finding jobs in districts that are willing to pay them what they are worth.
Is the board afraid that if they have an open board meeting the city will come out in droves for the teachers? I think so.
