Bridge detour needs revision

As I sit in my Everett office overlooking the newly created detour route for the Broadway bridge project, it appears as if this is planned to dissuade drivers from even traveling through the downtown Everett corridor; rather, it appears planners want to keep all traffic on I-5.

There are three stop signs along a two-lane road just on one side of the PUD building! The newly painted lanes carve out a huge swath of street parking for the PUD rather than creating a two-lane road that allows drivers to have a temporary turn lane. Is this poor planning or are transportation engineers being instructed to dissuade people altogether by making this one-year detour so cumbersome and time consuming? With only weeks before the project begins, there should be Everett City Council oversight of this massive project. Businesses, residents and visitors will suffer due to this poor planning.

A right-turn lane should be created in front of the PUD building. Do away with all street parking during this one-year project. It can be brought back when the project is completed. Install temporary street lights, not three separate stop signs! Can you imagine the number of accidents for each of these intersections within a two-block stretch!
