At 36, I am amazed at women I meet who are still touting the phrase “I want politicians who protect a woman’s right to choose!” I see a lot more “choices” out there that I want protected than my “Roe vs. Wade right.”
I would very much like the choice to not leave my daughter in a government subsidized day care and instead have a tax cut that would enable my husband and me to afford for one of us to stay home. I would like the choice of sending my child to the most successful school. Under Bush’s plan, public schools that fail to improve after three years have federal monies withdrawn. Funds go to parents to better their children’s education.
The choice of the best health care is important to me. Bush proposes tax credits to help families like mine buy affordable, quality coverage. And talk about choice; I like Bush’s proposal of voluntarily investing 2 percent of social security in investments like stocks and mutual funds. For my generation, and my daughter’s, I believe George W. Bush is the president who will ensure that practical, real choices for women are protected.
