In Tuesday’s Herald, Mark Carlson wrote about CEOs’ “excessive compensation” in The Buzz. He should be confined to the Opinion page or better yet to taking classified ads. It is obvious he is an “Occupy” sympathizer and knows nothing about business. All he can do is write sarcasm. He wouldn’t know leadership if he had a leader to follow.
In business (you know, Capitalism?) almost anyone (except Mark Carlson) can increase sales and profits in a booming economy. True leadership increases sales and profits in a recession. That is what these CEOs did, thereby saving the jobs of thousands who otherwise would be unemployed (and competing with Carlson for the menial task of writing the Buzz column).
These CEOs get that high up in management after earning a reputation for succeeding in lower positions and therefore can write their own ticket, as they say. They are there because they get results when the chips are down. They earn what they get. All Carlson can do is envy them or encourage the government to tax them until they move elsewhere.
