Does anyone seriously believe that we have the ability to make a significant change in the way we fund, organize and operate the K-12 educational system in this state? It would be nice not to be so pessimistic here, but realistically we have political, organizational and operational factions that have not and will not come together to seriously straighten out this mess.
All the while our young people just take what they can get and await another avoidable crisis to be mired down in poverty pleadings by our short sighted leaders and politicians. Each, of which, stands guard protecting their own precious turf and term. Have we learned nothing historically here? This has been ongoing for eons and it seems everyone having a dog in this fight will gladly make some seemingly rational statement close to elections that lead the populous to believe someone is going to take a stab at getting this right. Later, following election season the issue dies down and we find ourselves mired once again with status quo.
We can get this done only if all the participants make whatever sacrifice necessary to come together and bang out something real and lasting. They all first need to dump the selfishness at the doorway. This includes every political faction, every educational leader, the WEA, every private/charter representative, and parents alike. Now, go ahead and identify the faults with this opinion so that we can keep talking this to death for another few generations.
