Canceled season would be great loss

Last weekend was a musical one for our community. We attended the “So You Think You Can Dance” show at the Comcast Arena and loved it. The music was loud, the crowd was enthusiastic and the dancers were awesome. Every age group was represented. A totally good time was had by all! The promoters spent some time informing us of the Dizzy Feet foundation to encourage the arts in our communities and what they are doing to promote dance.

Sunday night we attended the Moscow Ballet at the Civic Auditorium. The costumes were fabulous, the dancers were skilled and beautiful, the little ones were adorable and our symphony was one our community could take pride in. Many people brought children to expose them to the beauty of classical music and dance. Unfortunately, very few people turned out to share in it. It must have been disappointing for the corps and the musicians to play to an almost empty auditorium, but they put forth their finest effort and the show was beautiful.

On Monday I read that our symphony may have to cancel its season for lack of support. That will be a great loss to all of us. I was just amazed at the lack of support for this local endeavor. I know money is tight for all of us, but the tickets to the ballet were half the cost of tickets to the dance show. It seems so many people did not know of the ballet — why?
