My son’s backpack was stolen out of his car in my driveway on Nov. 18, at approximately 10 a.m.
He has a disability and in the backpack were all his prescription drugs in several containers, plus clothing and other belongings.
911 was called immediately and he was told the Sheriff’s Department would be contacted and someone would come out to investigate. A short time later an officer called and said a police report would be sent to him instead, by mail, to be returned for filing.
Is the Sheriff’s Department’s only responsibility to sit on a side road and give tickets to drivers going 5 mph over the speed limit, or to sit in a McDonalds or Safeway, drink coffee and eat donuts?
Drugs were involved here, for heaven’s sake. One was a pain prescription to treat his disabled leg. Others were more common everyday prescription drugs for ailments such as hypertension and high cholesterol. He doesn’t have much hope of getting these prescriptions replaced anytime soon.
We live in Lake Stevens and have not been annexed as yet, so the Lake Stevens Police Department has an excuse (unless it’s a crime in their own neighborhood, I suppose). We moved into this neighborhood in May of 2006 and there have been numerous calls by neighbors to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office regarding thefts, break-ins, threats and dog abuse by kids, all since a new development was built behind us. No Sheriff’s deputy ever comes when calls are made.
