Last week I received my gas bill. After noticing that for the fourth month in a row my gas usage was less than the year before, but my bill was higher than last year, I called Puget Sound Energy. I was informed that in January, the gas rate was increased 18 percent, and that las month the rate was again increased 5 percent. So, in the last 6 months, we have seen our gas rate rise by 23 percent.
Today I read in an article about companies buying (through auction) their greenhouse gas pollution allowances. included in the auction where businesses required to pay for their emissions, according to Clean and Prosperous Washington. One of the businesses required to participate? You guessed it: Puget Sound Energy.
Now guess who is truly paying for the pollution allowances?
