It is total nonsense about the recent articles on Aaron Reardon over his use of a county issued cell phone to make personal calls. If it was a crime that employees, whether it be a public employee or an employee of a private firm, were to use a company-provided phone and they made personal calls on it, whether it be intentional or unintentional, then I could guarantee the reader that everyone would be guilty of this.
Most everyone has a cell phone or is provided a cell phone plan that has unlimited calls, so what matter does it make whether the call was personal or for business? There would not be an increase in cost for usage for the call. And if the argument is that he is on company time, then that means no one who is employed can take a call from home, your wife or husband, or children, or make a call for that matter, because you are abusing company time.
How about investigating some serious subjects, for instance, “Why do firemen shopping for groceries leave their truck idling outside the store?” For instance, they could be inspecting fire hydrants to make sure they are working properly. Let’s get serious here!
