I was raised to be a giver, rescued as a homeless child, by a loving organization, who served “With Heart to God, and Hand to Man,” always showing me by their example how I should live.
So, when I grew up, and was financially able to do so, I lived as I had been taught; giving freely and generously, to causes I cared about who requested, and I felt deserved, my help. Now, with the exception of the organization that raised me, sadly, those days are over.
Why? Because the places I have donated to, without exception, have given out my personal information, and I am literally besieged, with requests for money from every similar organization imaginable. This has become a daily occurrence; last week I received seven in the same day; yesterday, four! If they send me a dollar bill, or a check, I return them; but I no longer donate.
I wish with all my heart, that I didn’t have to write this letter, so why did I write it; to plead with those of you who are soliciting donations, to cherish, respect and protect your donors and their information, because if you don’t, one day they may feel like I do; disrespected and used! Then, like me, they may come to the sad decision, that their giving days are over.
