From what I have seen and heard, there are still many people who question whether human-caused global warming is real. This, in spite of our planet recently setting new month and year high temperature records, the shrinking of glaciers and ice caps, the consensus of the vast majority of climate scientists, and the fact that all but a few countries in the world signed on to the 2015 Paris Climate Accord. All this evidence is still not sufficient to convince the skeptics.
However, many of these same skeptics believe that the previous presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump, even though no credible evidence has been identified by anyone. The legal actions brought by the Trump team regarding election fraud after that election were all thrown out of court due to lack of evidence. There’s absolutely no evidence that the election was stolen!
What is the cause of this apparent contradiction? It seems a major contributor is that people get to choose from numerous information sources these days, and many choose sources that provide news they want to hear. People like Rupert Murdoch realized this, and just to make money Fox News and others provide news and opinions that many people want regardless of the accuracy of the news stories.
Unless we can enlighten these people or reduce the bias in the distribution of “news,” we can only expect more division in our country and more gridlock in our government.
