At the Lynnwood City Council meeting on Monday, I stood up at the citizen comment portion of the meeting. After three words, the mayor interrupted me and shut me down — and started talking to the attorney and said I could not speak — he had absolutely no idea as to what I was going to say. He assumed. What is he afraid of?
I tried to fight for the right to speak but I was gagged — was told that I could not speak. The council members were aghast at what was happening before them. The mayor evidently does not believe in free speech. He does have a history of not getting along with staff members but I guess that is extended to the community at large.
As a citizen I am not allowed to comment about a council member. I have three minutes to make my statement and then I am done. A city for the people and by the people is not a value the mayor appears to think is important. Free speech is seemingly not a value in Lynnwood.
He appears to be worried that I might have spoken about the city-manager type government that is going on the ballot in November. Yes, I am for it — after watching what happened to me I would think the citizens of Lynnwood would be as well.
