I was interested in the comments in the April 21 letter, “Country founded on compromise.” I wonder how far the writer would be willing to compromise our Constitution to promote his liberal views.
I am conservative by choice and firmly believe all our laws are based on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. These documents were hammered out by our founding fathers over the course of many weeks of debate, and yes, compromise. They even provided a procedure for their amendment when necessary. They have served us pretty well over more than 200 years. Their very purpose is to serve as a shield against over-zealous politicians.
The art of politics is based on compromise but always within the constraints imposed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Somehow I get the impression the writer does not hold these same views.
