Thank you for your article regarding the geese in the parks in Holland. (July 19, “Goose whisperer connects with Dutch fowl.”)
Being from there originally, it always makes me proud to hear or read how advanced the Dutch are in the treatment and general welfare of both domestic and farm animals.
Although, even in Holland, there are still atrocities committed against animals in the name of religion, I always hope and pray that these practices will no longer be tolerated in the near future.
Also, I hope that Mr. Rick Steves (see his July 8 column “Geese of Dordogne”) will stop over in Holland on his next trip to Europe and talk to this extraordinary young Dutchman about geese. Maybe Mr. Steves will change his mind about the use of these animals in the production of foie gras. Is a few seconds of pleasing our tastebuds really worth the cruelty committed against these birds? Not for me, and not for my conscience.
