Like thousands of people in the 44th Legislative District, the first time I took measure of the character of Rep. Hans Dunshee he was standing at my door. He worked hard for my vote, and I found him to be a frank, honest man.
Like thousands of others in the 44th Legislative District, I first got to know the nature of some of his opposition when they put their “robo-calls” in motion last fall. The taped accusations against Mr. Dunshee were gross misrepresentations of the facts and an annoyance even to the police.
Now, the series of letters attacking Mr. Dunshee and the article (“Land sale to lawmaker raises ire”) that provoked it are annoying me. The only real problem with the land sale mentioned in that article was the notification process. Mr. Dunshee used the same set of skills that make him a good legislator to strike an unusual and mutually beneficial land deal. The largely Republican City Council did nothing for Democrat Dunshee that they would not have done for John Offthestreet.
I’ve had a disagreement or two with Hans, but he always works hard and smart for his constituents. He is honest to a fault. When he said, “I was busy. It (notification) is not my responsibility,” he was only speaking the truth.
