When elections are too close to call such as this one, it leaves the country feeling unsettled, and I can’t begin to imagine what the candidates and their families are going through. We’re left hanging in limbo waiting for the absentee ballots to come in. We have the Cantwell-Gorton Senate situation as well as the presidency still left hanging.
When Election Day is over, it should be over, for all concerned. If we changed the way absentee ballots are handled, it could prevent this from happening in the future. I think all absentee ballots should be required to be sent in and counted no later than the official Election Day. That way, all votes are in and accounted for all on the same day, and all candidates as well as the public know just where things stand. This current election situation is taking an emotional toll on all of us.
