Concerning a recent letter that praised Adam Fortney for “transparency and accountabilit”:
Fortney rehired a friend who had killed an unarmed man. He never explained why he ignored an 800-page report that justified the firing.
He apparently lied in an official statement about not being at the scene of the shooting.
Fortney was later given a video of the incident showing that false statements were made by deputies at the scene. He apparently told the individual that gave him the video to not mention its existence. It came out via a public records request.
He did not explain why his office did not timely reapply for law enforcement accreditation certifying that best policies and procedures are followed.
Fortney refused to comment on public complaints from staff at the jail he runs.
He refused to answer questions about a speaker at his election fundraiser, a sheriff from Arizona who supports a group that contends federal and state government authorities are subordinate to the local authority of county sheriffs and police.
Fortney stopped publishing the annual sheriff’s report when he took office.
All five living former Snohomish County Sheriffs endorse Susanna Johnson. These people know both candidates.
Fortney went from patrol officer to patrol sergeant in 20 years. Johnson went from patrol officer to sergeant, SWAT leader, detective, lieutenant, captain, and bureau chief in 30 years. She is a decorated graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Academy.
Susanna Johnson equals experience, quality, transparency and accountability.
