County wrong to consider expansion

I felt compelled to write a letter as it appears that The Herald has a very biased viewpoint of reporting about the proposed expansion of Paine Field.

First of all, I am appalled that County Executive Aaron Reardon is even considering the idea at all, as the mediated role determination states that the purpose or intention of Paine Field is to be a general aviation airport and not a commercial airport – why is the government ignoring the intent of this document and telling us what we need?

Because the paper serves the people and not just local businesses, I would like to suggest that you poll and inquire with people who live in the nearby communities as to what they have to say about it. I have personally spoken to folks who live in Lynnwood, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Everett and Mukilteo and there is a resounding no to the expansion.

Some of the reasons against the expansion are obvious. To name a few:

1. Noise pollution.

2. Negative affect on our school children and their learning environment.

3. Radical change to our communities.

4. Increased traffic congestion.

5. Increased taxes to support the infrastructure and building of the airport – this is no trivial matter.
